Personally I always thought John Candy was at his finest when he played a lazy or pissed off character.

Rutland Weekend Television: Whistle Test
I guess RWT used to be a post monty python comedy show written by Eric Idle with music by Neil Innes. It aired on bbc2 for 2 seasons in 75' and 76' it also had a christmas special that brodcasted on boxing day with George Harrison making a cameo.
